Intran’s History And Future

There are many reasons to choose a Mexico-based contract manufacturer. If you think your parts production needs have reached a level that requires a contract manufacturer (this post will help you decide), there are a few important points to consider. When considering contract manufacturing in Mexico, you’ll want to review these topics:

Now the question is: How do you decide which contract manufacturer to go with? We may be a bit biased, but at Intran we believe our proud history and bright future speak for themselves. Let’s take a look at how we got to where we are.

Our Start: Flota Mex

Intran began as Flota Mex in 1969. We were founded by Juan Enrique Cintron Pou. Flota Mex specialized in fuel sending units for the automotive OEM market. We established relationships with several well-known OEM names. Chrysler Corporation, American Motors, Volkswagen, Nissan, Dina, and Mexicana de Autobuses were among our clients throughout the 1970’s.

Expansion among the Mexico aftermarket continued through the 80’s. 1990 saw the opening of our first US office location. In the following decade, US and Canadian sales became 95% of Flota Mex’s overall sales.

In the 2000’s we expanded our reach to meet the OE and aftermarket needs in the heavy equipment and construction markets. By 2005 our production capabilities grew to include wire harnesses, float arm assemblies, and guide rods. In 2009, Flota Mex was rebranded, and Intran was born.

The growth of Intran from 2010 on saw the inclusion of processes such a brazing, wire bending, machining, tube bending, and injection molding. Intran’s processes evolved from welding with silver alloys to brazing in a continuous belt furnace with copper in a controlled hydrogen and nitrogen atmosphere.

In 2015, we purchased our stamping equipment and began offering metal stamped products that were manufactured in-house. The following year we conducted a 2nd expansion into the Mexican market and experienced a 4-times sales increase in 2 years.

In 2017, Intran entered into 15 new supply agreements with Tier 1 and Tier 2 automotive companies. We also began in-house assembly of fuel module components. The year 2018 saw 200% year over year growth.

You’ve heard us talk about our many hydroforming capabilities – but did you know we only recently launched this system? Our hydroforming processes came on line in 2019. The next year (2020) we installed our second brazing line and its inaugural run was a 1 million unit contract. By 2020, Intran saw 100,000 Tier 1 units per week come off the lines.

In 2020 and beyond, Intran acquired new industrial stamping and brazing contracts and continued to see growth, despite the difficult market conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic era. We keep expanding our industrial, automotive, and aftermarket product capabilities, and believe that our focus on nearshoring plays a large role in our continued success.
